I will probably get my head taken off again for this post but here goes.

As bad as Bush is (and that is pretty bad), there are people who would rather go with something that is "known" rather than "unknown".

Even if McCain is Bush's clone, people will know what to expect from him and may be willing to suffer through another 4 years and hope that the choices in 2012 will be better.

Obama is a relative unknown and that scares a lot of people. He talks a good talk, but there is little to show that he will come through with all of his promises.
