You can surely announce news at a shareholder's meeting. It is done all the time. You have a certain and reasonable amount of time to disclose the same information to the general public.

When announcements are made at a meeting, they are usually announced via PR at the same time to the public, but actually the company could legally do it afterwards -- but very soon afterwards. That being the law, who knows what may or may not happen.
