Petrobras meets with Cuban officialFiled from Houston

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL: Cuba's Minister of Basic Industry Yadira Garcia met with executives from Brazilian state oil company Petrobras. Under discussion was the Jan. 15 agreement between Petrobras and Cuban national oil company CUPET. The agreement calls for initiatives in the areas of exploration and production, refining, maintenance and research and development.
Petrobras and CUPET also talked about beginning seismic surveys in Cuba's section of the Gulf of Mexico. Cupet and a group of foreign energy companies, including ONGC, StatoilHydro and Repsol, plan to begin drilling in the region next year. Petrobras has also expressed interest in Cuba's deepwater Gulf of Mexico blocks.
