Quang Nam to have biggest ever in central region tourism project

The Quang Nam People’s Committee has officially asked the Prime Minister to approve a US invested tourism project worth $10bil.
The area for the tourism project, according to Dinh Van Thu, Spokesman of the Quang Nam People’s Committee, if approved, this tourism project will be the biggest ever in the central region and central highlands. The investors, the US-based Global C&D Inc. and other US companies, plan to inject over $10bil to develop the Dragon Beach Casino Resort.

Chairman of the Quang Nam People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Hai revealed that the investor has spent several years negotiating the project with local authorities.

DBCR will include a luxury sea tourism complex, including hotels, casinos, trade centers, an international conference center and entertainment areas, which will cover an area of 460 ha. Of this, 60 ha will be reserved for a resettlement area, while the other 400 ha will be reserved for 11 major construction works, including hotels with casinos (200 ha, nine hotels-$9bil), an international conference centre (30 ha, $400mil), luxury hotels (20 ha, $140mil), golf course, sports complex (20 ha, $100mil), trade center (20 ha, $140mil).

The investors have committed to focus on building the resettlement area in the first phase of the project. Every household in the area will be given a two-story house with total area of 150 sq m, and have at least one member recruited for DBCR.

Sources told VietNamNet that investors want to start the project as soon as possible, but they still have to wait for Government approval. Meanwhile, Quang Nam provincial authorities have agreed to the basic principles of the project after five years of negotiations.

According to Mr. Hai, the project is hoped to kick off at the end of 2008.
