Ah, the infamous 'Pentagon study'. This report is not a forecast, prediction, proof, etc. It is contingent planning. The report cites that climate changes have occurred rapidly in the past even absent human involvement. Even if true, it may be too late to prevent disaster. But in the end, it's another Malthusisian dire warning about the dangers of overpopulation. Maybe Greenland will be green again, maybe England will become Siberia. There is still no actual finding that man is responsible for today's temperature changes that are within the normal range of variance experienced by the earth.

Before, we bankrupt our nation, it does seem reasonable to find out if we are heading for disaster. Further, we need a better treaty than Kyoto, no matter how much we curb emissions, our efforts could be swamped by rapidly developing economic powers China and India.

I live in Florida on the coast. If the worst case develops, I'll be at the bottom of the deep blue sea. I have no intention of moving to the mountains. This story will soon get a lot of play on television, and is virtually guaranteed to become an issue in the election. It is not however scientific confirmation that the global warming hypothesis is true. There are a number of thought projects at the Pentagon, designed to prepare for a wide variety of future contingencies, that doesn't make them predictions.

Long before man came onto the scene, the world underwent cyclical temperature changes. Asteroids have hit the earth and caused huge climactic change that extincted many forms of life. Could another asteroid strike us in a year. Perhaps, and there are people researching that contingency as well, but there is no prediction that it will happen in the next ten years, though it is plausible also.
