Generally speaking, no. Most cattle operations around here are small and the cattle are fed feed corn grown on the same farm. This holds true for even mom and pop operations that will put a few acres of corn in to self feed the cattle, to include turning out the heard in the corn field after harvest.

People have started shying away from cattle a bit because the price that they are getting at the show barn is low as the big feed lot operators aren't willing to pay as high a price as it is the feed lot operators are the ones that are getting seriously pinched by the price of feed. I did read an article, but did not confirm, that 2009 and beyond livestock futures are significantly higher than usuall, therefore, expect meat prices to raise dramatically in the futuren in reaction to this.
