The stated goal of many antiviral-drug companies is to get interferon out of the HCV cocktail as soon as possible, although no one is furnishing a firm timeline for this. Moreover, the progress toward this goal has been anemic: some companies have talked about animal studies using no-ifn combinations, but there are no such human trials running or planned that I’m aware of.

Ribavirin is a different story: it will almost certainly remain a component of the HCV SoC for many years. All attempts to remove ribavirin from the mix have failed, and no company I know of is even thinking of giving this another try.
