benz, Ix, have you read your voters manual? a neighbor pointed out ballot mneasure 53.. i told him i hadnt heard anything about that one.. what was it?.. he said it allows the govt to take your property even if you arent convicted of a crime... im reading the content and its very confusing.. it claims the bold print reflects the changes in the law but the explanatory statement kind of cancels some of the previous claims... so now, people can be accused of a crime and their property can be taken from them even without a conviction... on page 85, in the explanatory statement, read the 3rd paragraph.. it begins "this measure would allow civil forfieture of instrumentalities and proceeds of other crimes that are similar to the crime that a person is convicted of, even though the person is not convicted of committing those other crimes... im really confused about this ballot measure.. why havent we heard anything about this..."crime" is a broad word.. jaywalking is a crime, littering is a crime, running a red light is a crime.. this sounds like the authorities can accuse you of a crime and immediately take your property... thats not right.. they did that kind of thing back in the salem witch trial era...people would be accused of a crime of witchcraft, they would lose their property and usually their lives too.. whats going on here?
