I think that posting the negatives on a stock is fine and good. However, the big problem I see in general with posting the negatives is that often people just post one negative and say they don't like the stock without talking about the broader picture. I have NEVER seen a stock that doesn't have some negative aspect to it. So, to post about one negative in isolation is doing a disservice to the current holders of the stock and to people who might purchase the stock.

I will post negatives from time to time. I may do this in stocks I own or stocks that I don't own. I always try to make a statement on the overall prospect in addition to the negative. This puts the negative item in proper context.

I also often see posts on very minor issues with companies that are way out of proportion to the big picture. Again, context is important.

Lastly, I sometimes see situations where one poster doesn't like another poster. Maybe they had a disagreement at some point in time or there is some other friction between the two posters. I think the thing that people often forget in this situation is that bashing a stock to get back at another person impacts all owners of a stock.

Those are just a few of my general thoughts on posting the negatives of a stock FWIW.

Mike

(edit) P.S. I'll try to come up with a better expression than "shooting fish in a barrel!"
