SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

Sequenom, Inc. (NASDAQ:SQNM), a leading provider of genetic analysis solutions, today announced that a study indicating that noninvasive prenatal genetic testing using maternal plasma may be routinely used to characterize fetal Rhesus D (RHD) genotypes was presented in a poster session at the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) 56th Annual Clinical Meeting being held in New Orleans. The "blue ribbon" designation is reserved for those abstracts receiving the highest ranking by ACOG.

The study also concluded that a prototype test using the SEQureDx(TM) Technology developed to run on Sequenom's MassARRAY(R) system further demonstrated the universal potential for noninvasive prenatal testing. The poster, "A Novel Cell Free Fetal (ccff) DNA Test for RHD Shows 100% Accuracy in Non-invasive Prenatal Testing," was authored by Yanfeng Yang, Min Lee, Huining Liang and Brandy Klotzle, all from Sequenom; Tobias Legler Department of Transfusion Medicine, University of Gottingen, Germany; and Kenneth J. Moise, Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.

"We are truly excited that ACOG awarded this study with its blue ribbon designation," said Betty Dragon, Ph.D., Senior Vice President of Research & Development, Sequenom. "While similar studies have supported the introduction of noninvasive RHD genotyping of fetuses from RhD-negative mothers, the majority of reported studies have been conducted on the Real Time-PCR platform, which requires multiple repeat reactions to detect all targets for each patient sample. This study demonstrated 100% accuracy using a convenient single-reaction test for RHD genotyping. We look forward to the commercial launch of a Laboratory Developed Test method using the SEQureDx Technology for RHD fetal genotyping on the MassARRAY platform through our partner labs in mid-2008."

About Sequenom

Sequenom is committed to providing the best genetic analysis products that translate genomic science into superior solutions for biomedical research, livestock and agricultural applications, molecular medicine, and noninvasive prenatal testing. Sequenom's proprietary MassARRAY system is a high-performance nucleic acid analysis platform that efficiently and precisely measures the amount of genetic target material and variations therein. The system is able to deliver reliable and specific data from complex biological samples and from genetic target material that is only available in trace amounts. Sequenom has exclusively licensed intellectual property rights for the development and commercialization of noninvasive prenatal genetic tests for use with the MassARRAY system and other platforms.
