excel, thought I would sum up the FTTH discussion with a review of your major contentions why FTTH is not going to be THE solution for broadband delivery to the masses in countries like USA, JApan, KOREA, Europe, etc. First, your major contention is that the cost of deployment of FTTH is way, way too high. You state that "cable is cost effective as far as construction costs but limited to speed." My point is that you are looking at the costs of FTTH years ago and that today the cost of deploying FTTH is comparable to other wirelines like cable. I presented evidence to that effect (Iowa article and current Japanese deployments). If you read that Iowa article carefully you would see that the real cost of deploying FTTH is lower than other wirelines because FTTH is "future-proof." That means that fiberoptics to the home is where broadband telecommunications is ultimately headed.

Your second contention is that FTTH is not going to be the solution because NVEI's broadband solution will use the existing twisted-pair network and thus be much, much cheaper to deploy. Obviously, this contention falls into the realm of speculation. While I respect your loyalty to a company whose stock you own, nevertheless beliefs about the ultimately viability of a radical new technology cannot be substituted as evidence in a rational discussion of the future of broadband telecommunications. And you are interested in a rational discussion of NV, aren't you? While I recognize the possibility of NV broadband technology ultimately being successfully tested and deployed, I also recognize that the information to date concerning it does not show it to be a "slam-dunk."

Thanks for the excellent job you are doing as the initial editor of this message board. I have read your comments where you seem to indicate that somehow discussion of FTTH is not "on thread" on this message board. Perhaps you should post a list of topics which you think is appropriate to discuss here because such guidance would provide a reasonable basis for future comments by yourself.
