First, in 2007, the company celebrated its 25th year of business. Since it’s inception in 1982 through Fran Rowe and Kent Deines’ development of the industry’s first underwater Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP), the company has gone on to produce a wide array of acoustic Doppler products for measuring water in motion and motion in water. Twenty-five years later, the ADCP continues to be the oceanographer’s tool of choice for full-column current velocity measurements.

Then, in January 2008, thanks to the company’s continuously growing worldwide customer base, Teledyne RDI celebrated another significant milestone when Workhorse ADCP number 10,000 rolled off the company’s assembly line. The Workhorse ADCP product was developed in 1992, ten years after the company’s inception.

The Workhorse ADCP was designed to deliver the company’s proven BroadBand technology in a smaller, lower cost, and easier to use package. This critical advancement made the ADCP user-friendly and affordable for mainstream users. The Workhorse family of ADCPs continues to provide thousands of worldwide users with precision current profiling, waves measurement and/or precision navigation capability. In total, including Teledyne RDI’s non-Workhorse ADCP products the company has delivered nearly 15,000 instruments worldwide.

More significant than the number of ADCP products sold, are the number of current profiling and precision navigation applications they represent.
