As you may be aware, I have several times on this board expressed my disagreements with Hagee and shared my displeasure at his lack of Biblical scholarship and errant theology in several areas.
But there are also many areas in which he is dead on correct. In a lot of what liberals and others are castigating him for, his words are either being twisted and taken out of context or he never said what they claim. Finally, at least some of what he has said has Biblical merit to it.
Are you aware of what Hagee teaches?? Are you aware of what Scripture teaches?? Are you capable of sorting out the things that he teaches that are true from those that are in error?
I am certainly not comfortable being put in a place where I have to defend Hagee because I think much of what he teaches is wrong, but in many cases he is being demonized for the wrong reasons. I certainly have not read nor heard all of his teaching, but from what I am familiar with, while he goes overboard in some places, a lot of what he has to say about the roman catholic church is Biblically accurate.
As for McCain, I think he would be best served by taking the position that Ronald Reagan took -- something to the effect of "I am responsible for what I believe and say. I have no control over those who support me believe and say." Your comparison lacks merit anyway, because McCain did not spend 20 years sitting in the pews listening to Hagee's teaching nor has he ever called Hagee his spiritual mentor. The two situations are not comparable.
