Doug, I agree that my comparison of speeds is both simplistic and provocative in that it implies a direct comparison without considering complicating factors. However, it was meant to focus on a point, that Dothan is a much slower clocked processor than Prescott, and we cannot apply very many lessons from Prescott to Dothan.

Yes, we can compare the power usage at a given clock speed between Prescott and Northwood. If the same ratios hold at 2GHz that we see at 3GHz then Dothan will be in trouble. However, I can not conclude that. It is quite possible that the power tracks closely up to, say 2.6GHz, and then Intel's 90nm goes ballistic after that.

We just don't know.

But we don't have to wait very long now for the answer.
