HCV is probably the largest unmet medical need where there is a very good chance that drugs now in development will substantially improve patient outcomes.

We’re not talking about adding a few months for someone who is going to die anyway or making a minor improvement in quality of life. Rather, we’re talking about curing a disease that often leads to dire consequences and even death if not eradicated.

Moreover, the bolus of individuals who contracted HCV in the 1960s, 1970s, and early 1980s is just now reaching the point where the disease is likely to progress to cirrhosis or HCC.
