There are many sayings concerning the markets. One such saying is "Never try to catch a falling knife." Meaning wait until the trend has clearly turned before buying. While market timing is difficult, it is the deciding factor that seperates the profits from the losses. For a long term investor it is not as critical as it is for the daytrader.
