I doubt TradeStation would work for you strictly as a backup broker.

Their commissions are the same as IB basically, 1 cent/shr (but they charge the additional .00468% or whatever it is SEC fee on sale proceeds), $2.50 for E-Mini futures, but there is also a $100 monthly fee for the platform (which is fabulous, IMO, with rt charts and every indicator you can think of, plus strategies, etc. which you wouldn't use anyway and more). You also pay a minimal fee for other data you may want, like level II, Radar Screen, ECN books, news, etc.

I think they may be too expensive and too complicated for what you are looking for, but go to www.tradestation.com to check them out for yourself. I use TS as my primary and IB as my backup. Good luck!
