There were also far more Indians in South America than North America. One would have thought the earliest settled continent would have had the largest population. One theory is that early migrants from Siberia went down the Pacific coast, skipping North America. That doesn't sound very plausible to me, that someone traveled from Alaska to South America in a prehistoric voyage. However, DNA analysis seems to support the Bering Strait migration. We will probably never know the true story of the pre-European settlement of the Americas.
The problem with the earliest settlements, is that there will likely be no remaining evidence. Occasionally, we get lucky and find some fossilized evidence, but that is the exception, not the norm.
