13:46 ET Color on Security Conference -- CE Unterberg : One of the major catalysts driving homeland security stocks over the past week or so (besides pure momentum) was the recently completed Int'l Security Conference West in Las Vegas. CE Unterberg came away from the conference focused on three major themes: 1) Digital video surveillance systems dominate security deployments; since 9/11, digital systems are rapidly replacing analog systems (less than 10% of video cameras deployed worldwide are part of digital video systems, providing a large base for system upgrades). The firm notes that the following public cos in this space: ABCX, ECX, FLIR, HON, TYC. 2) Biometrics in access control systems gains momentum, with fingerprint systems dominating; public co's include: BKYI, BYT, PMCS. And 3) The use of IP networks as the transmission backbone for access control systems is gaining traction due to its low cost and high speed, ability to network disparate systems, and integrate various security technologies in a single deployment.
