Slavery was part of this nation since its founding, so one cannot blame anything on that.
Inferring from Scripture, especially from His dealings with Israel, I believe that God is looking primarily at how the people of a nation, taken as a whole, view Him. Do they hold Him in reverential awe and at least attempt to guide their behavior based on His precepts or do they openly scorn Him and mock Him, breaking His commandments at will.
Is immorality celebrated and lifted up in the society, or is it frowned upon. Does the government try to do right by its people or do they rule for their own ends. Does the society call good evil and evil good or do they have a moral compass based on His word.
God judged Israel frequently because "every one did what was right in his own eyes."
In the latter part of the nineteenth century and the early part of the twentieth century, no country on earth did more to spread the Gospel than America. Now, we are doing all we can to eliminate Him from our public discourse.
Few nations have fallen further, faster, in all these categories than America in the latter half of the twentieth century and so far in the twenty first century, and yes, I think that it is very evident that God is withdrawing His hand of blessing from us, and turning us over to our passions. We are rotting from within.
