As a blanket statement, this is patently wrong. There have been many cases where the share price climbed after a RS; a recent thread on this board cited several examples.
Serious investors usually own a calculator and are sufficiently facile in arithmetic to know how to multiply the share price by the number of shares outstanding in order to calculate the market cap.
