I first heard about thieves stealing copper pipes from empty homes in Nova Scotia three years ago. It wasn't yet front page headlines here at that time, and Nova Scotia was considered a poorer region

Now it's an epidemic everywhere in the world. I posted a series of articles on this spreading problem last fall; thieves were even stealing air conditioning units and refrigerators for their copper pipes.

This is the first I've read, however, of them stealing pipes from an occupied house - with the occupant in the home...lol.
