VISA (V) is a solid long term bet. The following is taken from a news article on VISA..

-----------------
"We're eyeing this as a long-term hold," said Ben Holmes, publisher of research site Morningnotes.com, who bought shares in the IPO. "What are we going to sell it to invest in? We've got to wait for the IPO calendar to pick back up before we can buy anything else."

Analysts were uniformly upbeat about the deal despite market volatility in recent weeks, saying that the stock was priced at a discount to MasterCard's. At the end of last month, Morningstar Inc. analysts calculated the shares could be worth at least $65; a week later, they bumped their estimate up to $74, saying the company's operating margins could double by 2015 as it cuts costs during its transition from a group of bank-owned associations into a single publicly traded company.

Although acknowledging the company is dependent on consumer spending patterns, analysts at Renaissance Capital's IPOhome.com noted that there is plenty of transaction growth expected as people continue to shift from cash to plastic, and potential for greater growth in developing regions like Asia and Latin America, where credit-card use isn't as widespread.

In the week heading up to the offering, it became clear to analysts and investors that there was no shortage of interest in the deal. Scott Sweet, managing director of IPOBoutique.com, an IPO-research service in Tampa, Fla., said banks were telling investors leading up to the debut they were unlikely to receive the number of shares they requested due to strong demand.

"Allocations have been anemic. There's interest coming from obvious domestic sources, but also major interest from foreign investors in Kuwait and China," said Sweet.
