We have covered this territory several times in the past. Yes, in a manner of speaking the books included in the Bible were chosen by the early church, guided in their selection by the Holy Spirit, who also was the One who guided the authors of each book as they wrote.

Contrary to recent mythology, the current canon of Scripture as we know it today was in place by the end of the second century, and there was broad consensus within the church as to what was canonical and what was not. The recently discovered texts you refer to were certainly well known at the time they were written and the simple fact is that they did not measure up to the standards required to become Scripture. Those standards included authorship (apostles or close associates of apostles or of the Lord Himself) and content (must be in full agreement with the rest of Scripture).

Your concept of God remains too small. If He can create the Universe out of nothing, then if He chooses to communicate to His creatures (mankind) essential knowledge about Himself and His desires for us (especially what is necessary for salvation), then He is most certainly capable of controlling the writing and transmission of that information to us.
