Zeev, regarding the night sky in NH - you probably have less light polution than most. My wife and I rode our tandem bicycle across New York, Vermont and NH on our way to Bar Harbor ME. Sometimes we would camp out and I vividly remember how striking the night sky was. I'd like to repeat that trip sometime.
