is it possible a material part of the K8 SOI production capacity will be diverted to 32bit K8 parts?

Originally, before Intel's capitulation to the AMD64 marchitecture, that may have been the case. But I can't see why any OEM would refuse 64-bit capability on any grounds other than cost. Compaq's Jonathan Kaye, manager of product line marketing for HP notebooks, said this on 3/9/04, according to EWeek http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1759,1545290,00.asp

"In the coming cycle, 95 percent of what we offer will probably be Hammer 64"

And Compaq is the only OEM using the 32 bit Hammers.
