I don't know what the real number is.


However the game is, they never cover. They already hold the shares that they are shorting.

Eventually they will move to plan B. They may already have.

The bad guys sell the stock short, they then lend the money to the company for shares, at some fraction of the current market price. They then end up with more shares than they shorted so they hand over that portion of shares then the sell the remainder into the marrket.

There is no risk, they can't lose.
