Zeev, Intalco in Ferndale Wa. and another aluminum smelter in Wenatchee Wa. just got some gubernatorial decreed tax breaks(late last week I believe)to keep the doors open. Power costs have escalated to the point that smelters claim they cannot stay open. The governor has reduced other taxes to try and balance decreasing taxes with increasing power costs, however I believe this is a 2 year plan and it then goes away. The smelters hope they can strong arm BPA into reducing their power costs, good luck.IMHO The political BS regarding Columbia River water will not allow much postering by smelters for lower power rates. I mean it only makes sense that the water is all used to preserve, so called endangered salmon stocks, when there is no market for them now. AND the runs are stronger than they have been for years, actually decades. Time to stop this before my blood pressure gets too high. There's part of my perspective to your question!!!
