"Global warming is real, there's no denying it, but lefties exaggerate, scare, and talk like they truly know what's going to happen, and that just isn't so."

I agree with this statement to some degree. I think that the Earth has been warming for a long time, however, I do not think that CO2 is the driver for that warming.

Have a look at this presentation on Youtube from an Australian scientist that gives a very compelling argument for the hypothesis that CO2 drives temperature.

Part 1:

Part 2:

Part 3:

Part 4:

Also, it just so happens that CO2 as a greenhouse gas only constitutes a very small percentage, while water vapor makes up the bulk majority of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.

So why CO2? Why is that what the global warming advocates focusing on?

That is easy. If they can control the carbon dioxide emissions around the world, then they can control the economy. There is no economic activity that we can engage in that does not have some carbon footprint.

Who is they?

Also easy. Bureaucracies that have a globalist agenda. They hate the American economy because it is so successful, so what do they need to do? Put the brakes on it.

-----> From a speech former President Bill Clinton made recently: "Everybody knows that global warming is real," Mr. Clinton said, giving a shout-out to Al Gore's Nobel Peace Prize, "but we cannot solve it alone."

"And maybe America, and Europe, and Japan, and Canada -- the rich counties -- would say, 'OK, we just have to slow down our economy and cut back our greenhouse gas emissions 'cause we have to save the planet for our grandchildren.' We could do that."

"We'll always need and use oil, it's not just a source of fuel; however, we need to move to wind, sun, hydro, and nuclear sources and remove the choke hold the petroleum industry and countries have on us."

Your statement regarding oil is very true. We will ALWAYS need oil even if it is not for gasoline, jet fuel, etc. So many of the things that have become necessities in today's modern life are made from petroleum distillates.

As far as the petroleum industry having a choke hold on us, I don't buy it. We should be thanking them for providing a product to us that we could never get on our own. What we need to do is eliminate our need on foreign oil while at the same time developing other means to generate energy.

I am all for Nuclear. This is a proven technology that is readily available now. That is awesome and we should be building more power plants.

Hydro power. Awesome, where it can be effectively used, lets use it.

Solar power. Not very efficient now, but that can change. Lets push money into researching that, but do it in the private sector as well as the government. Make it worthwhile for companies to research this.

Biofuels. Too costly and will not solve all the problems. There are ways to do this cheaply, but it is not politically viable in today's government bureaucracy.

Wind power. Love it and we should develop it where we can.

In the end, all of these are great ideas, but they will not solve the problem of dependence on foreign oil overnight. So how can we do that?

1. Open up ANWAR and offshore leases for oil development. We can produce enough oil to eliminate the need on foreign sources for a decade or two. Let's do that and during those one or two decades, lets build nuclear power plants, wind, solar, etc.

2. Clean coal. We have the second largest clean burning coal deposit in the world. This kind of coal technology meets all the emission standards set out today. Why can't we access it? Bill Clinton declared the entire area of land the deposit resides on Federal Wildlife Refuges. Open up these lands and start getting it.

3. Get rid of the UAW union. This is the one of the reasons that we cannot compete with foreign auto manufacturers. Next, work with the auto companies to develop cars that outperform the competition in mileage. Give them incentives to doing things smarter and more economically sound. CAFE standard demands are not the fix that is needed.

These are just three things that if implemented would see an immediate drop in the price of oil. Energy would be cheaper and the economy would recover while at the same time working toward a cleaner way of doing things.

While this is the common sense approach to things, it will never happen because it means the government reducing it's involvement in our lives and allowing us to solve our problems for ourselves. Government is too big and too dependent on the status quo remaining where it is to ensure it's survival. Sad but true.

Sorry for the rant, but the CO2 thing is just a ruse and world is being lead into believing it. I do however completely agree that taxing us through a cap and trade system is the entirely wrong approach, but I fear it is on the horizon here in the US.
