The fact that both Japan and Pakistan have non-NATO ally status and both border China and one of the most important objectives in this grand game of chess is to contain or surround the enemy could certainly be another reason for the status we have bestowed upon Pakistan.

now that's scary... that we could even think we could contain China. It seems like the more I know, the more I realize I don't understand.
