Machinery Plant Control and Monitoring Systems (MPCMS)

ElectroWave USA sold 5 Machinery Plant Control and Monitoring Systems (MPCMS) to 3 different customers almost simultanously. The MPCMS system allows the operators of the vessel to reduce manning requirements by integrating all of the machinery controls and monitoring systems into one. The MPCMS reduced the number of crew on one vessel by more than 50%, allowing the USCG to allocate personel to more critical areas.

ElectroWave USA's largest MPCMS system consists of over 5000 points, consisting of hard wired sensors, contacts, and data over industrial protocols such as Ethernet, Modbus, and Profibus. We have integrated systems such as Fire, Flooding, Ballast, Fueling, Bridge, Propulsion, Engines, HVAC, Deck Machinery, Air Systems, Emergency Generators, Lighting, and more, into one system. An entire vessel can now almost be operated from one station by a very minimal crew.

The first of three new ferries for New York City
enters service.

"In the engine room, Chief Engineer
Dave Sambula appears happy with his
new assignment on the Molinari.
“These new boats are very exciting to
me,” he said. “It’s really a well-engineered
and put-together vessel.” A 13-
year veteran of the ferry system,
Sambula proudly pointed to the flat-
screen computer monitors, which display
vital statistics for all onboard systems.
From engine temperatures to
holding tank capacities, the monitoring
system, designed for the ferries by
ElectroWave USA, Houston, provides
real-time information to the crew.
“ElectroWave stands out,” said
Wright. “They use commercial off-theshelf
PLCs [programmable logic controllers].
That concept is really taking
off. We were clear about using commercial
off-the-shelf products. We said
we didn’t want anything that was custom
made. That way we can still maintain
the systems, get the
parts” and minimize
downtime."
