Working under sinks, been there done that.
Safety goggles, yes but eyes are getting old and hard to see with em on. And that chit in your eyes ya.
The worst is overhead soldering with that chit dropping in your face. Or just a little water in the pipe blasting out some steam with a little flux right in the eye, now thats a pain.
I too try to remember the glasses whenever I can.
Just did a set of kitchen faucets in a 4 unit apt, no shutoffs so had to shut down the whole building. Then cheap taps with steel nuts, behind sink and pipes, in-accessable, so had to pull the whole sink as a unit. New taps, drain fittings and shutoffs. I always use the brass / teflon seal mini ball valves, never had a problem with them. Don't even ask the customer if they want em its just part of the package.
