You have a ways to go as a Christian theologian. It is correct that Mother Theresa "was not good enough" to qualify on her own to enter Heaven. Therefore, it follows without question that "son of Sam" was not good enough either. No one is, for God's standard is perfection -- no one who has the stain of unforgiven sin on him can enter the presence of God. No one is sinless (except Jesus) so no one qualifies on their own.

Each of us, from the worst to the best has to have his or her sins forgiven to enter Heaven and God has provided only one way for a person's sins to be forgiven -- faith in the sacrificial death of Jesus. There is no other way to be saved. I personally have my doubts that "son of Sam" was saved, but I really have little basis to go on there, for the sacrificial death of Jesus was more than sufficient for all his sins (and yours and mine) to be forgiven.

Scripture also teaches us that it is very important how we live our lives "in the here and now". If we truly have accepted Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we will do our best to lead our lives in a manner that will be pleasing to Him. Rest assured that if a true Christian chooses to live a life of sin, he will be disciplined by God with a view to get him to correct his behavior. The Bible tells us that if such a person is not disciplined, then he is not a true Christian. That discipline can become very painful as I and many others can attest, for God will do whatever it takes to get our attention and obedience. Contrary to what we often hear ("all your troubles will be over") Christians are promised in the Bible that we will undergo tests and trials, and we, like children, will be disciplined by our Heavenly Father.
