Yeah, but they are doing it in such a way that there is almost no risk in it. Their computers are continually looking for trades, and they may have 3, 4, 5 parts to them and happen in fractions of a second. They're basically helping themselves to "free" money. We could try and emulate that in IB, but we are so far down the food chain, and are tools primitive compared to theirs, that our risk would be higher.

They've got it to the point where the MMs don't even have to do anything any more. They turn on the terminals in the morning and then sit and watch. They don't even have to push the buttons any more. Even if we had the same equipment and software, we would still lose out to them if we tried to play their game. They sweat the time lag between their computers and the exchanges data centers. It's why the London brokers trading in the US have computers over here. The few seconds it takes the data to get all the way to London is too slow.

So we can't do what da boyz are doing, since they'll win every time, but we can at a much lower more primitive level do something sort of like it while realizing we have a much higher risk.
