Tinner & mlsoft,
God may well raise someone else up. He may also raise Israel itself up. Israel has defended itself against tremendous odds in times past--long past and not so long past.
A third scenario is discussed in Daniel 9 & 12, Zechariah 12, Matthew 24, and Revelation 1:7-8 & 19. Someone may only "seem" to rise up to defend Israel. He will be a great world leader at the time. Against all expectation, he will establish a 7 year peace in the Middle East, even to the point of negotiating the rebuilding of the temple in Jerusalem. However, he will betray the Jews in the middle of that 7 year period, enter into the temple, and demand to be worshipped as god.
He will be the "abomination of desolation".
He will usher in the greatest persecution the Jews have ever seen. When all seems lost for Israel, their Messiah will come and deliver them. Then, there will be great wailing: from the Jews, because they will recognize that they had been wrong, and Yeshua was their Messiah after all; from the rest of the world, because they will recognize that they, too, had been wrong all along, that they have been duped by the antichrist, and that their judgement is at hand.
May God bless the Jews and grant them protection in the dark times to come.
