Excel, thanks for that post. My Dad used to get drunk every day he was off from work, even vacations. My mother, my sisters and I were victims of mental and physical abuse. I saw him almost kill my mother twice. And he used to drive drunk with us all the time. My mother was powerless because she was like a lot of other mothers back then, she didn't drive and didn't work. When she sought help from the authorities, they always took up for my father, and even one time they saw the beatings my sisters had taken from him. They were severely bruised. They would tell my mother that if they locked my Dad up, he would lose his job. So he was protected instead of us.

Well, that's my growing up life in a nutshell. I said that someday I might share my story. I started to send this as a PM, but I thought, no, people need to hear it.

Well, long story short, my Dad and Mom and one of my sisters are now in Heaven, and I forgive him for all that he did to us. But my Mom, sisters and I lived in hell for years and years. Other kids always looked forward to weekends and vacations, but we dreaded them. We never had any peace when he was drunk.

I don't understand why we had to go through all that, but I guess that one day when I get to Heaven, I will know. I do know that God protected us when we were on the road with my Dad drunk.

God gave me a wonderful husband. He is so loving, kind and generous. He will do anything for me. And he is a wonderful father and grandfather too. We have been married almost 40 years and we are still in love and no, he does not drink.
