You brought up a good point Breezin. As silly as it may sound, the small refrigerator thing would be a factor. We have big mamva jamba French door refrigerators with pull out botton drawer freezers, not to mention the extra freezer in te utility room. So, we can store and preserve more here in the USA.
I remember reading and article a while back. I don't remember if it was Japan or China, but they developed a way to grow box shaped watermelon. They did it so they could keep the watermelon in their refrigerators and still have room for some other things. Otherwise, the watermelon was all they could fit.
The point is that theses people would have to go to the grocery stores much more frequently than we do.
