If there are shorts on this stock right now, they better be careful since once the symbol change is processed and the company releases news at the same time....shorts will not be able to cover fast enough since most brokerage houses will halt trading until the new symbol is implemented.

Shorts will get handed their shorts on a short squeeze. their borkers will have to place a call on their short position and they will be forced to cover. once this happens, it will add more pressure to an upward movement of the stock price and the shorts loose more money in the process.

gotta love a short squeeze!
