With every access to main memory Banias has to burn power from:
CPU to chipset
chipset to RAM
RAM to Chipset
Chipset to CPU


Good thing the Banias needs to access memory about half as
often as a 256 KB mobile Opteron and a Dothan about a third
as often.

BTW, why don't you also explain the difference in number of
chip crossings needed when I/O devices perform DMA to or
from main memory.
