I'm saying that America was already an industrial powerhouse before the imposition of a progressive income tax, shortly before WWI. That tax would be welcome by many, the lowest tax bracket was 1%, the top was 7%.
I was challenging the statement that progressive taxes had built America. If we are to have an income tax, I favor a progressive rate. Like many conservatives and libertarians, though, I'd prefer a much smaller federal government, in which case, the income tax might not be necessary.
