Steve, it was a family saloon from Chrysler in the mid 1960's. Here are some photos

Both the AP5/6 and many models of Australia's own family saloon (the Holden see below) later became classics in many peoples eyes and many are now restored/ souped up etc.

The Valiant in particular was like a tank, designed for towing caravans across the desert I think. I hit a Kangaroo in mine at about 65mph and the Kangaroo hit the upper deck (figuratively speaking) and I had a misaligned headlight.
