In the next few months Brazil anticipates signing contracts with Russia that will give them the capability of bringing to orbit large payloads or to launch ICBMs unless Bush makes them an offer they can’t refuse.

Rosaviakosmos expecting big contracts with Brazil
19.02.2004, 17.21
MOSCOW, February 19 (Itar-Tass) - Russia's Rosaviakosmos aerospace agency said it was expecting "big contracts" with Brazil within the next few months.
"We'll prepare for signing several documents by the meeting between the Russian prime minister and the Brazilian vice-president, scheduled for May-June," Rosaviakosmos spokesman Sergei Gorbunov told Itar-Tass.
"Brazil displays great interest in Russian space equipment and is of high opinion of Russian specialists," Gorbunov said.
"Brazilians were amazed by their professionalism, when Russians quickly and efficiently helped eliminate consequences of the explosion at the Alcantara launch center, which killed more than 20 people," he noted.
In cooperation, Brazil foremost counts on interaction in finalizing the development of the national hard-propellant booster rocket.
It is planning to develop a new booster, capable of bringing to orbit large payloads. Also, there are other promising directions of cooperation, according to the spokesman.
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Boris Alyoshin stated in Brazil on Thursday that the parties, in their space exploration talks, discuss such approaches, which can dramatically change not only Russian-Brazilian relations, but also create a new model of international cooperation.
Alyoshin co-chairs for Russia the sessions of the bilateral economic cooperation commission, which is currently meeting in Brazil.
