Visiting my opthamologist today, I traded information about treatments for AMD (I told her about squalamine and Genaera, which had not heard of). She mentioned what sounded to me like a bizarre treatment called plasmapheresis, offered by a laser company whose name she could not recall. However, she told me that she had been impressed with the early research and had invested some of her money in that company.
Apparently plasmapheresis reduces the amount of high molecular-weight plasma proteins and Lipoproteins in the blood.
Anyone have a take on this treatment and which company she may have made reference to?
