The problem with hydrogen storage is that you need to dramatically increase the density of the hydrogen. With these sponge-like materials, there is significant compression, but afaik not enough to overcome the weight problem. You need to have your storage material contain approximately 10 % by weight of hydrogen.

The sponge stuff is interesting, but Im not sure it's going to be a viable technology.
