It makes no sense for Apple to use X86 chips in the iPhone. It would cannabilize laptop sales. It's overkill. iPhones need fast connections and an open sdk, the x86 reference is a wet dream for GEEKS, a business that Apple is trying to get out of. Arm processors are more than powerful enough to handle duties Apple throws at them with incomparable battery life. In fact, Texas Instrument just spoke at a technology conference and the same question was asked of them. They repeated that x86 cannot compete with arm in battery life for mobile devices like a cellphone. Intel is going after a different product, a laptop replacement product.
