It would all depend on your personal goals. There are many traders that daytrade options exclusively and won't touch a penny stock. I tend to buy and hold them longer term but occasionally flip them quickly. I like to play them on pending news and earnings and only hold them 1-3 days.
AAPL has done very well this time of the year for the last few years. It usually will run into January and is looking pretty good at the moment. There is some educational reading you can do at these two sites.
