Weighing on SanDisk (SNDK) is a Reuters report that South Korea's Hynix Semiconductor plans to start mass producing flash memory chips from this month to ride explosive demand for the memory chips used in gadgets ranging from cell phones to digital cameras. The announcement came after Hynix, the world's third largest memory chip maker, agreed with STMicroelectronics early last year to jointly develop and supply flash memory chips. "We've completed development of NAND-type flash memory and would mass produce them starting this month," Hynix said in a statement. There is also some chatter about disappointing digital camera shipment guidance by two Japanese camera makers, but this would appear to be less of a factor.
