After a week which saw the Nasdaq fall by 2.7% and the Dow by 1.3%, the markets on Friday closed only marginally down on the day.
While the earnings season is coming to a close there remain a number of major companies who are still to make their announcements and for today among others we have the following reporting: ACDO, ANDW, BSX, HUM, IP, RDWR, JCOM, ONNN, SOHU and TASR.
Economic news due for release today includes personal income and spending data which is due out before the opening bell Monday and will be watched for signs of a pickup in consumer health. About a half hour after the opening bell, the Institute for Supply Management is scheduled to release its manufacturing index for January and this will be watched for continuing recovery in the manufacturing sector.
Although overnight there was a sizeable fall in the Hang Seng, European markets have moved modestly upwards and US stock futures are indicating a positive opening to today’s trading as chips gain on bullish sector outlook.
