I agree that a company would not be quite as attractive to investors if they had to keep the same symbol, and thus their history would be easier to track.

Take this company. There will be plenty of newbies out there now who get on some crap stock website that has no historical info on this company because they changed their symbol after the split. They'll take a look at the low O/S here, not realizing that this company has just R/S and is dilluting that O/S right back up.

If companies had to keep the same symbol after an R/S, I think it would help track them, and inevitably would make the company less attractive to investors. After all shouldn't R/S companies be less attractive? Maybe CEO's will think twice before R/S then.
