I agree that there is a segment of the market that will pay for ultra high performance. But, the winner of the CPU battles will be the company that can dominate the high volume consumer and corporate space. What I am saying is, that AMD now has to worry because Intel will be using there marketing dollars to win this segment.
I too own an AthlonXP computer and will probably buy a A64 when it comes out. But every computer at work and every x86 server is either a Dell or and IBM and is powered by Intel.
Ask yourself this, after several years of having a competitive market how many chips is AMD selling to Fortune 500 corporations through Tier 1 manufacturers. I know of only one significant win.

I agree with you. AMD has it's work cut out for it. They are making progress though and it will take some time. At least they are in position to compete on a somewhat more level playfield now.
I wish no company bad luck. At the same time I like to see real competition and one has to give AMD credit for that.
I purchased $1,500.00 8086's and Moto 68000 series proccs, my memmory still works fairly well.
